For those who qualify, Medicaid waivers and other assistance may be available to help families in need of additional support services for their child(ren) with special needs.
Bureau of Developmental Disabilities (BDDS)
- The BDDS provides services for individuals with developmental disabilities to ensure they can live as independently as possible in their communities. This includes assistance in receiving community supports and residential services using person-centered plans that determine which services are needed.
- Medicaid waivers are available to those who qualify:
- Community Integration and Habilitation Waiver (CIH): This waiver provides Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) to participants in a range of community settings as an alternative to care in an intermediate care facility for individuals with developmental disabilities (ICF/IID) or related conditions.
- Family Supports Waiver (FSW): This waiver provides Medicaid HCBS waiver services to participants in a range of community settings as an alternative to care in an intermediate care facility individuals with developmental disabilities (ICF/IID) or related conditions.
- Supervised Group Living (SGL): A group home or Supervised Group Living (SGL) is a residential option and alternative to waiver placements for eligible individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities needing services.
Vocational Rehabilitation Services
- Vocational Rehabilitation provides a variety of services related to job training and employability skills for adults and high school students with special needs.
- Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VR) provide support for people with disabilities to prepare for, obtain, or retain employment. The individual works closely with a VR counselor throughout the process. With active participation in the rehabilitation, people with disabilities achieve greater independence in their work and living environments.
Transportation
- For transportation assistance to and from school, the following outside resources are available:
- Indiana Medicaid: Medicaid transportation to and from school may be available for those who qualify.
- IndyGo: Damar Charter Academy is accessible via the IndyGo bus system. A discounted rate is available with a student ID.
Indiana Disability Resource Finder
- IndianaDisabilityResourceFINDER.org, (FINDER) is available to help locate local resources for students and families to support a disability. It has comprehensive and up-to-date information about thousands of service providers, programs, equipment and community advocates that can help students with disabilities and their families overcome challenges. FINDER collects and organizes contact and service information from around Indiana, giving 24/7 access to timely and reliable information improving quality of life for Hoosiers with an intellectual, developmental or physical disability.

Dyslexia Information
- The dyslexia intervention programs used during the previous school year to assist students with dyslexia.
- DCA utilizes Imagine MyPath reading intervention in our elementary and middle school academic classrooms.
- DCA utilizes NWEA MAP Reading Fluency Dyslexia Screener as the universal screener to help identify students that may be “at risk” or “at some risk” for learning characteristics related to dyslexia.
- The number of students during the school year who received dyslexia intervention.
- Currently, all students in the elementary and middle school academic classrooms receive daily reading intervention/enrichment that focuses on their individualized needs.
- The total number of students identified with dyslexia.
- DCA did not have any students identified with dyslexia during the 2022-2023 school year.
